How can we grow food in the middle of a city? What does sustainable eating really mean? And how can we take action for climate justice in our everyday lives?

Fields of Tomorrow is a 14-day international youth exchange from 24. October til 06. November 2025 in Berlin for young people from Germany, France and Italy. It brings together individuals who care about food, the environment, and social justice – and want to explore how we can shape the future of our cities through sustainable food systems. The project takes place in Berlin and is funded by the EU Erasmus+ programme.

Over the course of two weeks, we will visit urban gardens and food initiatives, learn from local activists and experts, and explore practical ways to make our food systems more fair and climate-friendly. Participants will work in international teams, create a digital city tour, cook together, design a public campaign, and reflect on what sustainability means in their own lives.

Whether you’re already involved in environmental topics or just getting started – this project is an opportunity to connect, learn, and take action.

Who can apply?

We’re looking for participants between 18 and 27 years old who live in Germany – especially in Berlin – and are curious, open-minded, and ready to engage in group work and intercultural exchange. A basic understanding of English is required, as it will be the working language throughout the exchange.

We explicitly encourage applications from young people with disabilities or those facing barriers to participation. Your experiences and perspectives are valuable, and we will do our best to create an inclusive space that meets your needs.

Accommodation and meals

Participants will stay in shared rooms at a youth education centre in Berlin. The house also offers seminar rooms and shared spaces for cooking, workshops and discussions. All meals will be vegetarian or vegan, using seasonal, organic and partly rescued ingredients. If you have any dietary needs or concerns around accessibility, you can let us know in the application form.

Costs and travel

Please note that there is no travel budget for participants from Berlin because the EU-Budget für short distances is 0€. Please let us know if that might be a barrier for your participation. We will be able to find a solution for that.

Accommodation, meals and all programme activities are covered by the Erasmus+ programme. Travel costs will be reimbursed after the exchange, based on EU distance guidelines.

What you should know

Participants will take part in shared responsibilities like cooking and cleaning, and work together on creative outputs such as a public campaign and a digital scavenger hunt. We will also reflect regularly as a group, and you’ll receive a Youthpass certificate at the end of the project to recognise your learning achievements.

Health insurance (EHIC or private) is required. We also recommend taking out travel and liability insurance, as personal belongings are not covered.

You must be available for the full programme from October 24 to November 6, and attend a short preparation meeting before the exchange.
